Pimpri Chinchwad, 5th March 2024: The Maha Metro route, extending from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Nigdi, has received clearance. Shiv Sena MP Shrirang Barne of Maval constituency revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will perform the online Bhoomi Pujan ceremony for this route on March 6 at 10:00 AM, broadcasted through television.

The current metro line arrives in PCMC from Harris Bridge in Dapodi on the Swargate to Pimpri route. The existing end station is PCMC Bhavan in Pimpri. Responding to citizens’ demands, the decision was made to extend the metro line to Nigdi. Mahametro prepared a detailed project report for this extension, which received approval from the Maharashtra State Government and PCMC. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) approved the extension from Pimpri to Nigdi on October 23, 2023.

The construction of the metro line has reached completion up to the Empire Estate bridge near Pimpri Station, with further expansion planned from that point onwards. The extended route will include three additional stations between Pimpri and Nigdi: Chinchwad station (located between Mahaveer Chowk and Ahimsa Chowk), Khandoba Mal Chowk in Akurdi, and Nigdi (situated between Tilak Chowk and Bhakti-Shakti Chowk). The allocated budget for this project is 910 crore 18 lakh rupees, and the commencement of the work is scheduled after the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony on March 6.

MP Shrirang Barne announced the commencement of actual work on the metro line from Pimpri to Bhakti-Shakti, marking a significant milestone that reflects the expanding aspirations of the citizens of Pimpri-Chinchwad. On this auspicious occasion, there is a commitment to further extend the metro line to Kiwale, Mukai Chowk, and Wakad Chowk. Additionally, efforts are underway to explore extending the metro line from Hinjawadi to Chakan via Nashik Phata. These initiatives aim to enhance public transport facilities for the residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad City and the surrounding areas.
