Pune: Private Company Faces Production Shutdown Due To Pollution Violations

Pune, 18th July 2023: Shalirex Polyvinyl Pvt. Ltd., located in Sanaswadi on Pune-Ahmednagar Road, has been ordered to cease production within 48 hours by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Corporation (MPCB) for violating the Pollution Control Act. Numerous complaints were lodged against the company regarding significant air pollution caused by its operations.

A site inspection conducted by the MPCB unveiled multiple violations of environmental laws. Despite previous recommendations for necessary changes, the company failed to address the concerns, leading the board to issue the production shutdown order.

Shalirex Company specializes in PVC coating. Tejas Yadav, President of Swarajya Rakshak Pratishthan and former Deputy Sarpanch of Nimgaon Mhalungi village, filed a complaint highlighting the extensive air pollution caused by the company. Acting upon the complaint, MPCB officials visited the company on March 24, discovering numerous environmental law violations during the inspection.

The board had previously issued directives for the company to comply with regulations and make the necessary changes. However, the company failed to adhere to the prescribed environmental laws. Consequently, the board issued an interim order, which the company disregarded without taking any corrective measures. As a result, on July 14, the MPCB escalated its actions and ordered a production shutdown within 48 hours. The order explicitly forbids any work to commence until further notice.

Officials stated, “In addition to the production shutdown, the electricity and water supply to the company must be disconnected within 48 hours. The executive engineer of the Kedgaon division of MSEDCL, along with the village development officer of Sanaswadi village, have been instructed to disconnect the electricity and water connections.”
