Pune: Purandar Airport Project Moves Ahead, MADC Begins Process to Appoint Consultant
Pune, 23rd October 2026: The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) has initiated the process of appointing a consultant to conduct surveys required for preparing the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje International Airport at Purandar.
The consultant will also assist with the technical and financial feasibility study and manage the tendering process until the tender for the airport’s construction is issued, the MADC said.
Deepak Kapoor, vice-chairman and managing director of the MADC, announced the development on X, stating that work on the Purandar airport project was progressing and the process of appointing a consultant had begun.
The proposed airport will come up across seven villages in Purandar taluka — Pargaon, Kumbharvalan, Vanpuri, Ekhathpur, Udachiwadi, Munjwadi and Khanwadi. The land acquisition process is also underway.
The MADC has already conducted a feasibility assessment of the land across the seven villages. The next phase will involve additional surveys and technical studies to prepare the final DPR and facilitate the project’s implementation.
The proposed surveys include topographical, geotechnical, hydrological and cartographic assessments. These will help determine the terrain’s elevation and contours, soil and rock characteristics, ground-bearing capacity, natural drainage channels and flood risks, as well as prepare detailed maps of the proposed airport site.
The findings will provide technical inputs for planning key infrastructure, including the runway, terminal building, internal roads, drainage systems and other airport facilities.
According to MADC officials, the scope of the engineering studies and technical surveys will be specified in the tender documents. After the consultant is appointed, the surveys will be conducted and their findings analysed before the DPR is finalised, paving the way for further planning and the construction tender.
