Pune, 21st August 2025: The Maharashtra state government has decided to reduce the land acquisition for the proposed Purandar International Airport project from 7,000 acres to 3,000 acres, providing relief to several farmers who were opposing the earlier plan.

District Collector Jitendra Dudi informed reporters on Thursday that the process of collecting consent letters from farmers willing to part with their land will begin from Monday, August 25. The consent letters will be accepted for 21 days at the District Collector’s office in Pune and the SDO office in Saswad.

“Many farmers are ready to give their land. Those submitting consent letters will be eligible for additional compensation. Farmers who do not submit consent will not receive this additional benefit,” Dudi said.

According to the revised plan, land acquisition will now cover only half of the area originally proposed. Affected families whose houses fall under the project will be compensated with a 250-square-meter residential plot in Aerocity.

The compensation package includes four times the market value of the acquired land, along with 10 percent of the acquired land returned as a developed plot. Officials stated that the Aerocity plots are valued between ₹1 crore and ₹2 crore, ensuring significant benefits for farmers.

Additional provisions include separate plots for multiple families residing in a single acquired home after document verification, 25 months’ minimum agricultural wage for landless project-affected persons, and 18 months’ minimum wage for small landholders. Project-affected families will also be given priority for jobs in the upcoming airport project.

The state government had finalized the decision to scale down the land acquisition on August 20.
