Pune: Quick Response by Chandannagar Police Leads to Arrest of Phone Snatcher

Chandannagar, 1st April 2023: In an incident that took place in the Mundhwa area, police officers successfully chased and apprehended a thief who had stolen a mobile phone from a young man and attempted to flee.

The suspect, identified as Shashank Srikant Nagvekar of Keshavnagar in Mundhwa, was later caught and arrested by police officers. Nagvekar’s accomplice, Asman Babu Sheikh of Kolwadi, is still on the run, and a case has been registered against him.

According to the complainant, Shubham Atish Jagtap, he was talking on his mobile phone in front of Cafe Buddha on Old Mundhwa Road in Ganeshnagar when the two-wheeler thieves grabbed his phone and attempted to escape. The incident took place around 11.30 pm on Thursday. Jagtap shouted for help, and nearby patrolling policemen, Shiva Dhande and Namdev Gadare of Chandannagar police station, immediately began chasing the suspects.

The suspects rode their two-wheeler into the Sainathnagar area and spread out, but police officers were able to catch Nagvekar while his accomplice managed to escape. Nagvekar was caught from the riverside area after a chase.

Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Landge said that the duo had earlier similarly snatched a mobile phone around 10.30 pm at Tempo chowk in Vadgaonsheri. “We have recovered both phones. The search is on for the arrested accused’s accomplice”, he added.

The investigation team included Police Inspector (Crime) Jagannath Jankar, Sub-Inspector Goraksh Ghodke and police personnel Avinash Sakpal, Mahesh Nanekar, Shiva Dhande, and Namdev Gadare.
