Pune Railway Division Books 7,118 Unauthorized Hawkers, Rs 58 Lakh Fine Collected

Pune, 21st March 2026: Authorities in the Pune Railway Division carried out continuous enforcement action against unauthorized hawkers and the sale of unapproved Packaged Drinking Water (PDW) across railway stations and trains from April 2025 to 12 March 2026, during which thousands of cases were registered and fines amounting to several lakhs were collected.

According to official data, 7,118 cases were registered against unauthorized hawkers during the period. The enforcement action resulted in ₹58,48,330 being collected as fines from offenders across the division.

Month-wise data indicates that enforcement drives were conducted throughout the year, with the highest number of cases recorded in June, followed by July, August and September, reflecting continued action against unauthorized vending across railway premises and trains.

Apart from action against unauthorized hawkers, authorities also seized unapproved packaged drinking water bottles being sold illegally on railway premises and onboard trains. The seized water bottles were handed over to the concerned department as per procedure. During the enforcement period, 2743 bottles of unapproved packaged drinking water were seized in various enforcement drives.

Speaking about the enforcement drives, Divisional Commercial Manager and Public Relations Officer, Pune Division, Hemant Kumar Behera said, “Railway administration is continuously conducting drives against unauthorized hawkers and vendors across stations and trains in Pune Division. The objective of these drives is to ensure that passengers are provided safe, hygienic and authorized food and drinking water. Unauthorized vending violates railway rules and also raises concerns related to passenger safety and quality of products being sold. During the enforcement drives conducted from April 2025 to March 2026, action was taken against unauthorized hawkers and unapproved packaged drinking water vendors, cases were registered and fines were collected as per rules. The drives will continue regularly across the division to ensure compliance with railway regulations and to maintain proper vending systems at railway stations and onboard trains.”

Railway Protection Force officials were also involved in the enforcement activities conducted across stations and trains in the division.

The enforcement drives were conducted across multiple railway stations and trains in Pune Division as part of ongoing action against unauthorized vending and the sale of unapproved packaged drinking water on railway premises.
