Pune Rape Case: Chakan Woman Assaulted on Way to Work, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Arrest Accused

Chakan, 14th May 2025: A 27-year-old woman heading to her night shift in the Chakan Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) was brutally assaulted and raped late Tuesday night in Medankarwadi, Chakan. According to police, the woman was on her way to work when an unknown man followed her, intercepted her near the Khandoba temple, and forcibly dragged her to a secluded spot, where he sexually assaulted her. After the attack, the accused fled the scene. The victim was immediately admitted to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital for treatment.

The incident sparked shock and fear among local women and caused a stir in the industrial area. As soon as the crime was reported, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Shivaji Pawar, Crime Branch teams, and local police rushed to the spot. Police deployed a dog squad and forensic team to aid the investigation, and began checking CCTV footage and questioning area residents.

Chakan police registered a case under relevant sections, and with the help of Pimpri Chinchwad Crime Branch, formed six special teams to track down the perpetrator. Intensive analysis of CCTV footage and technical evidence led investigators to identify the accused as Prakash Tukaram Bhangre, a resident of Medankarwadi, originally from Ahilyanagar. Police detained Bhangre and, after interrogation, he confessed to the crime.

The arrest was made within 24 hours of the incident, and further investigation is ongoing.
