Pune, 13th March 2025: The city is experiencing intense summer heat earlier than usual, with temperatures soaring to 40.2°C in Lohgaon and Koregaon Park on Wednesday—the highest recorded so far this season. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a slight dip in temperatures starting Friday.

For the past three months, Pune’s temperatures have remained above average. Even the winter season was marked by unusual weather patterns, including cloudy skies, humidity, and fluctuating temperatures. IMD data from the last decade (2014-2024) shows that March temperatures in Shivajinagar have typically ranged between 33.4°C and 36.7°C. However, this year, the heatwave has arrived much earlier.

Last year, the highest March temperature recorded was 39.5°C, while in 2022, it reached 39.7°C. In 2019, Pune saw its hottest March with a record of 40.8°C. On Wednesday, Lohgaon registered 40.2°C, while areas like Koregaon Park and Chinchwad also touched 40°C. Meanwhile, Shivajinagar, Pashan, and Magarpatta recorded temperatures of 39°C.

According to the officials, clear skies, low humidity, and intense solar radiation, combined with an anti-cyclonic weather pattern, are responsible for the current heatwave. Rising temperatures in northern states and a heatwave in Gujarat have also contributed to Pune’s soaring mercury levels. Mumbai has been experiencing similar conditions for the past two days. Currently, Pune’s temperature is 3°C above average, but a slight decline is expected from Friday onwards.
