Pune, 5th May 2025: Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has assured that the government will provide the best possible compensation package for land acquisition related to the Purandar Airport Project, emphasizing that the interests of farmers will be prioritized. Addressing concerns, Bawankule urged farmers to submit their expectations and demands regarding land price, rehabilitation, and other facilities within seven days. He stated that the government will not commit any injustice against farmers and that the airport will boost development in western Maharashtra and provide employment opportunities for local youth.

Despite strong opposition from farmers to the land acquisition, Bawankule compared the project’s potential to the transformation brought by Multi-Modal International Passenger and Hub Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) project. He assured that any criminal cases filed against innocent farmers during recent protests would be reviewed and withdrawn, while action would be taken against those who attacked officials. Bawankule also addressed allegations of misinformation and clarified that the government’s approach is transparent and focused on farmers’ welfare.

Discussions with farmers from seven affected villages were held at the district collector’s office, where Bawankule listened to their concerns and reiterated that no injustice would occur. He also mentioned that the ongoing land survey has been temporarily halted out of respect for farmers’ sentiments and that further dialogue will take place over the next fifteen days to find a solution.
