Pune: ‘Riwayat’ an evening of classical music to pay tribute to veteran Sitar player, Ustad Hameed Khan

Pune, 14th January 2025: The Suhana Basant Foundation, dedicated to preserving diverse art forms is organizing ‘Riwayat’ – a musical tribute to the legendary Sitar player Ustad Hameed Khan. This event will take place on Friday, 17th January 2025, at 5:00 pm at the Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Auditorium on Ghole Road.

The program is free and open to all. Ustad Usman Khan, Pandit Rajendra Kulkarni, and Pandit Sudhakar Chavan will be the Guests of Honour.

Ustad Hameed Khan was renowned for promoting the Dharwad Gharana style and contributing significantly to the global recognition of Hindustani Classical music.

The evening’s performances will begin with ‘Sukoon’ (Sitar ensemble) and ‘Shakarguzari’ (Vocal ensemble) by students of Triguna School of Performing Arts. This will be followed by ‘Shad’ – a vocal and sitar duet by Rais Bale Khan and Mohasin Hameed Khan, son of Ustad Hameed Khan. The program will conclude with a performance by veteran classical singer Pandit Upendra Bhat of the Kirana Gharana.

Accompanying the artists will be Ramdas Palsule, Sachin Pawgi, Amol Mali, and Kartik Bhalerao (Tabla), along with Uday Shahapurkar and Gangadhar Shinde (Harmonium).
