Pune Road Rage: Husband, Wife Detained For Assaulting Woman In Baner

Baner, 21st July 2024: Jerylan Dsilva, a 27-year-old digital content creator and marketing officer, was violently attacked yesterday by a car driver on Baner-Pashan Road. Dsilva, who was traveling on a scooty with two children, was assaulted after a road rage incident. Following the attack, she made a video while bleeding from her mouth and nose, recounting the harrowing experience. This video has since gone viral, drawing widespread attention and concern.
According to the victim, the altercation began when a four-wheeler, driven by Swapnil Kekare, tried to overtake her and splashed mud. When Dsilva asked him to drive properly, the driver got enraged, stopped his car, and physically assaulted her.
In the video, D’Silva claims that Kekare pulled her hair and punched her twice on the face and nose, causing severe bleeding. Despite her children being present, the attacker showed no restraint and fled the scene immediately after the assault.
The viral video has sparked significant outrage on social media, with many questioning the deteriorating law and order situation in Pune. Concerns about the increasing frequency and severity of crimes are being widely discussed, and citizens are demanding stronger measures to ensure public safety.
Following the incident, the Chatushrungi police station registered a case against Swapnil Kekare (57), and his wife (52), who was also in the car during the incident. They were detained by the police.
They have been booked for offences under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 118 (1) (voluntarily causing hurt), 74(assault or criminal force on a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty), 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt to a person), 352 (intentionally insults someone) and 3 (5), and sections 117, 119 and 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
