Pune: Rs 400 Crores Sanctioned For Yerwada Mental Hospital

Pune, 21th August 2021: Maharashtra government has sanctioned Rs 1500 crores for the psychiatric hospitals in the state and Rs 400 crore has been allocated for Regional Mental Hospital in Yerwada, said state health minister Rajesh Tope who visited the hospital on Thursday.
He inspected the available manpower and facilities of the psychiatric hospital. He also interacted with some psychiatrists. The health minister said there was a need to work sensitively in important places like Yerwada Regional Psychiatric Hospital.
Specialist Doctors, Psychiatrists, Class III and IV vacancies in Yerwada Regional Psychiatric Hospital will be filled immediately. Instructions will be given to the District Collector and Municipal Commissioner to immediately remove encroachments on the plots of the Health Department including Yerwada Regional Psychiatric Hospital.
The Health Minister said that a “Voluntary Board” as well as a district-wise “Review Board” would be set up immediately as per the revised rules to facilitate the admission process of patients in psychiatric hospitals.
The number of specialist doctors, psychiatrists, technicians, and other necessary staff in Yerawada Psychiatric Hospital is very low, which is creating difficulties for the treatment of patients. He also ordered the posts be filled immediately. He clarified that specialist doctors will be made available in the premises of the psychiatric hospital for other treatments.
Also, a government-approved course for psychiatry will be started at this place and it may be done for psychiatric patients in the near future. A daycare centre will be set up outside the Yerwada Regional Psychiatric Hospital and facilities will be made available for patients who need temporary treatment. He instructed them to strengthen the security system so that the patients in the psychiatric hospital do not run away.
