Pune: Rs 85,000 Fine Imposed for Biomedical Waste Dumping, Garbage Burning in Pimpri Chinchwad

Pimpri Chinchwad, 27th February 2025: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has imposed fines totaling Rs 85,000 on two entities for violating solid waste management rules. A private hospital was fined Rs 35,000 for improper disposal of biomedical waste, while a private company was penalized Rs 50,000 for burning garbage in a public place.

The action comes as part of PCMC’s efforts to prepare for the ‘Swachh Survekshan 2024’ competition. The health department of PCMC has intensified its drive to keep the city clean and garbage-free, conducting various awareness campaigns among citizens.

Additionally, recent media reports, including those from Punekar News, have raised concerns about the improper disposal of waste. Taking note of this, the PCMC administration appears to have initiated action on the matter.

The hospital in Indrayani Nagar, Ward No. 8, under the ‘C’ Ward Office in Bhosari, was fined for dumping biomedical waste in a public area. The private company near Shelar Wasti in Chikhal, under the ‘F’ Ward Office, was penalized for burning waste on Dehu-Alandi Road.

PCMC Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh stated, “Despite continuous awareness campaigns, violations of solid waste management rules are still occurring. Therefore, we have started taking action against those who do not follow the rules.”

Additional Commissioner Vijay Kumar Khorate emphasized that following solid waste management rules is mandatory for every citizen. He urged public participation in awareness programs and adherence to the regulations.

Deputy Commissioner Sachin Pawar, in charge of the Solid Waste Management Department, announced that the campaign against rule violators will be expanded in the coming days and urged citizens to cooperate by adhering to the guidelines.

PCMC continues to advise citizens not to burn garbage, dispose of biomedical waste properly, avoid littering in public places, use garbage collection vehicles, and comply with solid waste management rules.
