Pune, 8th August 2024: Under the Right to Education Act (RTE), 25% of the reserved seats in private schools were allocated for student admissions, but many seats remain vacant despite two extensions of the deadline. The deadline will now be extended again to allow students on the waiting list to fill the vacant seats, according to Director of Primary Education Sharad Gosavi.

This year, there are 1,05,242 seats available for admission across 9,217 schools in the state. Out of 2,42,516 applications received, 93,009 students were admitted. The waiting list includes 71,276 students. Initially, the admission deadline was set for 23rd July. Then it was extended till 31st July. However, due to a low admission rate, the deadline was extended first to 5th August and then until today. As of today evening, admission had been confirmed for 58,736 students, leaving more than 46,000 seats vacant.

Gosavi stated that no further extensions will be granted. Admissions will be offered to students on the waiting list after reviewing the vacancies. Instructions regarding this will be issued in the next two to three days following the completion of the technical process.
