Pune RTO to Launch Three New Automatic Driving Testing Tracks, Easing License Process for Residents
Pune, 7th July 2025: Pune residents will soon find it easier to obtain a driver’s license, as the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has authorized the establishment of three new Automatic Driving Testing Tracks (ADTT) in Hadapsar, Alandi, and Saswad. Work on these centers is scheduled to begin by the end of this month. Currently, Pune has only one such track near Nashik Phata, but with these additions, the total will rise to four, significantly reducing the waiting time for permanent license tests.
The new facilities will bring services closer to residents, especially those living in diverse areas across the district, making the process more convenient compared to the existing setup in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The ADTT centers will use advanced technology-based systems to assess driving skills without human intervention. Equipped with sensors and cameras, the tracks will monitor candidates’ every movement and test skills such as D/H tracks, figure-eight tracks, parallel parking, and hill starts.
This technology promises error-free and transparent evaluation, minimizing human error and making the driving test more stringent. Even minor mistakes will result in lower scores, ensuring a higher standard of assessment. Immediate and accurate reports will be generated after the test, providing candidates with detailed feedback on their performance. The system is designed to test multiple candidates simultaneously, enabling faster service for a larger number of applicants.
Ashok Buildcon Ltd. has been appointed as the contractor for the project, while the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT) will serve as the project consultant. Regional Transport Officer Archana Gaikwad confirmed that work will begin within the next month.
The new centers are expected to save citizens time and fuel by eliminating the need for long-distance travel. Local residents in Hadapsar, Alandi, and Saswad will benefit from nearby testing facilities, and the shorter waiting times for permanent licenses will be a significant advantage.
Pune’s Regional Transport Officer Archana Gaikwad stated, “Previously, Pune had only one ADTT facility, requiring citizens to travel long distances. With the new centers at Hadapsar (Handewadi), Alandi Road RTO office, and Dive Ghat (Saswad), the process will become much more convenient. Not only will waiting times be reduced, but driving skills will also be evaluated more rigorously, enhancing road safety.”
