Pune: Ruby Hall Clinic Leads Road Safety Initiative with Bike Rally; Launches ‘Code Gold’ for Advanced Trauma Response
Pune, 23rd March 2026: Reinforcing its commitment to road safety and emergency care, Ruby Hall Clinic marked Brain Injury Awareness Month with a Bike Rally under the theme “The Road to Rediscovery.” The hospital also launched Code Gold (Polytrauma Code)—a dedicated protocol designed to deliver rapid, coordinated care to accident victims during the critical golden hour. The occasion was graced by Dr. Purvez Grant, Chief Cardiologist, Chairman and Managing Trustee, Ruby Hall Clinic; Dr. Simon Grant, Physician and Trustee, Ruby Hall Clinic; Ms. Natalie Grant Nanda, Ruby Hall Clinic, SPL; Dr. Ashish Nandy; Mr. Urvaksh Bhote; Dr. Vivek Lal; and Major Ranjana Williams. Conducted in association with Mission Safer Roads Biker Group, the rally brought together bikers, healthcare professionals, and citizens to promote safer riding practices, especially the use of helmets.
Pune continues to report a concerning number of road traffic accidents, reflecting a broader national trend. According to city traffic data, Pune recorded over 1,300 road accidents in 2025, resulting in approximately 300 fatalities, while 2024 saw 1,404 accidents and 320 deaths. Two-wheeler riders and pedestrians remain the most vulnerable, accounting for nearly 90% of fatalities. While improved enforcement has contributed to a marginal decline in deaths, the number of serious injuries continues to rise highlighting the urgent need for both preventive awareness and timely intervention within the golden hour, which can significantly improve survival rates and outcomes for trauma patients.
Dr. Purvez Grant, Chief Cardiologist, Chairman and Managing Trustee, Ruby Hall Clinic, said, “Road safety is not just a policy matter—it is a shared social responsibility. Through initiatives like this rally and the introduction of Code Gold, we are working towards strengthening both awareness and emergency preparedness. Ensuring treatment within the golden hour can be lifesaving, and structured systems like Code Gold play a crucial role in making that possible.”
Adding a clinical perspective, Dr. Kapil Zirpe, Head of Neuro-Intensive Care Unit, Ruby Hall Clinic, said, “In cases of severe trauma, especially head injuries, the first hour after an accident is extremely critical. Early and coordinated intervention within the golden hour significantly improves survival and reduces long-term neurological damage. Protocols like Code Gold ensure that patients receive timely, specialized care when it matters the most.”
With this initiative, Ruby Hall Clinic continues to drive impact at both ends of the spectrum prevention and advanced care while encouraging the community to adopt responsible road habits. The rally’s core message remained clear: safety begins with you.
