Pune Rural Police Arrest Notorious Highway Robber Sairat From Latur

Pune, 2 April 2021: The sleuths from the Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Pune, rural police have arrested two notorious robbers including the infamous Sairat from Latur. Police said that they have recovered two motorcycles from possession of the accused person which they had stolen and looted from the Pune district.

 

The arrested persons have been identified as Dnyaneshwar alias Sairat Balaji Jadhav (30), a resident of Renapur and Arjun alias Ajay Balaji Jadhav of Latur.

 

Senior Police Inspector Padmakar Ghanwat, in charge of LCB, said that Sairat is involved in road robberies in Pune district and more than 40 cases are registered against him in Marathwada.

 

According to police, on March 27 the arrested accused had looted a Splendor motorcycle and valuables from Hemant Kare, a resident of Pandharpur in Solapur district. Kare and his friend were going to Pune on the motorcycle via Pandharpur-Tembhurni route when the accused blocked their way with Bullet motorcycle around 2 am near Shivai Madir in Ravangaon of Daund taluka. The accused decamped with valuables worth Rs 67,800. Based on a complaint from Kare, a case of robbery was registered at Daund police station against two unidentified persons.

 

Pune District Superintendent of Police Dr Abhinav Deshmukh had instructed LCB to conduct a parallel investigation as the crime was serious. Accordingly, under the guidance of Inspector Ghanwat, a team comprising Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Kale, Assistant Sub-Inspector Shabbir Pathan, and police personnel Mahesh Gaikwad, Nilesh Kadam, Sachin Gaikwad, Guru Gaikwad, Subhash Raut and Kashinath Rajpure started the investigation.

 

The LCB team received a tip-off that the accused persons were in Latur. The cops laid a trap and nabbed Sairat and his accomplice Arjun from Latur. The Splendor motorcycle which was looted from Kare and a Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle which was stolen from Theur Phata in Haveli taluka was recovered from their possession.

 

Inspector Ghanwat said that Sairat is a notorious criminal on police record. “There have been more than 40 cases of robbery, theft, assault, attempted suicide in custody, attempted assault on a police officer. In the past, he escaped from police custody. The accused are likely to have robbed many people in the Solapur Road area of the Pune district. An investigation is underway and more cases are likely to be uncovered”, he added.

 

Inspector Ghanwat has appealed to people to contact Daund police station if anyone has been robbed in this manner. Both the accused have been handed over to Daund police station for further investigation. Deputy Superintendent of Police Mayur Bhujbal and Police Inspector Narayan Pawar are conducting further investigation into the crime.

 

The action was taken under the guidance of the Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Abhinav Deshmukh and Baramati Additional SP Milind Mohite.
