Pune Rural Police Crack Down on Illegal Firearms: Pistol-Carrying Gang Apprehended in Shirur

Shirur, 13th February 2024: The Shirur Crime Branch under Pune Rural Police apprehended a group involved in illegal firearms activities in Shirur town, resulting in the confiscation of three country-made pistols and nine live cartridges. The swift action of law enforcement authorities underscores their dedication to maintaining public safety and combating organized crime.

On January 10, while conducting a parallel investigation in the Shirur area, the Shirur Crime Branch received crucial information from a confidential informant regarding suspicious activities near the Pune to Ahmednagar highway bridge, leading to the village Golegaon near Shirur, Pune. It was reported that individuals in a red Swift car with tinted glass were engaged in illicit firearm transactions during the early hours of the morning.

Acting on this intelligence, the Shirur Crime Branch, under the guidance of senior officials, set up a trap in Golegaon. Shortly thereafter, a red Swift car matching the description arrived near the Pune-Ahmednagar Highway Bridge, and upon inspection, individuals with criminal records were found inside the vehicle. The apprehended individuals were identified as Sanket Santosh Mahamuni, Abhishek alias Hanuman Misal, Shubham Dattatraya Dalvi, and Ganesh alias Shrirang Shankar Mahajan. Three country-made pistols and nine live cartridges were seized from their possession.

The accused individuals face charges of illegal firearms possession and assault, with Sanket Santosh Mahamuni also implicated in the illegal sale of pistols in previous months. The Pune Rural Police have confiscated a total of eight pistols from Mahamuni, with multiple cases registered against each accused.

Following their arrest, the accused were presented before the Shirur court and remanded in police custody until February 13, 2024. The Pune Rural Police have initiated investigations to ascertain the source of the illegal firearms and the motives behind their acquisition.

This successful operation was conducted under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Pune Rural Pankaj Deshmukh, Additional Superintendent of Police Ramesh Chopde Pune Division, Sub Divisional Police Officer Prashant Dole Shirur Division, and Police Inspector of Local Crime Branch Avinash Shilimkar. The dedicated efforts of Posai Ganesh Jagdale and the support of Police Commissioners Tushar Pandare, Janardan Shelke, Raju Momin, Atul Dere, Vikram Tapkir, Sanjay Jadhav, and Yogesh Nagargoje, alongside ASI Mukund Kadam and Police Constable Dagdu Virkar, contributed to the successful outcome of this operation.
