Pune, 24th July 2023: Sancheti Institute of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation installed the state-of-art CUVIS Joint Robotic System for knee replacement surgery on Monday.

Hospital has launched a Joint Replacement Robot at the hands of Dr K H SAncheti, founder of Sancheti hospital and renowned orthopedic surgeon. Experts from Sancheti hospital mentioned that the robotic technology from US-based Meril Life offers immense benefits for orthoplastic surgeries, compared to conventional methods.

Dr K H Sancheti, who invented India’s first indigenous knee implant, said, “It is a proud moment for us to launch new technologies which are making recoveries faster and less painful. Medical science has made tremendous progress in the last few years. The more we adopt new technologies the better we become while serving our patients each day.”

Dr Parag Sancheti, Orthopedic Surgeon and Chairman of Sancheti hospital, said, “With the help of CUVIS Joint Robotic System, we can now do pre-planning of surgery through personalised 3D CT imaging of bones, submillimeter dimensional accuracy, and enhanced safety with bone movement monitoring. It is going to help for more accurate implant placement, reducing risk of infection and injury. The unique thing about this robot is, it can take cuts on its own during the surgery.”

While explaining its benefits for patients, Dr Sancheti added, “The success rate with this technology is 97 percent. Patients can now have early discharge from the hospital. Even the patient can walk within a couple of days after surgery. It also offers the potential for better long-term function of the knee joint. Knee implanted with robotic technology works well for 30 to 35 years. Cost wise it is going to add a very small amount when compared with conventional methods. We can even use this technology for the hip.”

These days a lot of young people have started having knee related problems. Chronic knee pain because of conditions like arthritis is increasingly seen among youngsters. Such advanced robotic knee replacement technology is giving relief for many such patients by ensuring better outcomes and quality of life.
