Pune: School Bus Catches Fire in Wakad After Dropping Students, No Casualties
Wakad, 20th August 2026: A private school bus caught fire in the Kalakhadak area near Bhumkar Chowk in Wakad on Thursday morning, but a major mishap was averted as the bus was carrying no students at the time.
The incident occurred around 10.33am when the bus was returning after dropping students at school. The driver noticed smoke coming from the vehicle and immediately pulled it over to the roadside.
A team from the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s Rahatani fire station rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control within a short time.
The bus was damaged in the fire. The exact cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained.
The firefighting operation was carried out by leading fireman Nikhil Gogawale, firemen Ganesh Musale, Sanket Parekar and Deepak Kothe, trainee sub-officer Dnyaneshwar Hake, trainee fireman Prasad Bagekari and driver Sanjay Biskite.
The PCMC fire department has appealed to motorists to immediately stop their vehicles at a safe location if they notice smoke, a burning smell, wiring problems or any other unusual signs. In case of a suspected vehicle fire, people should immediately contact the fire department on 101.
