Pune Sees Light Rain, IMD Predicts Cloudy Skies Till December 8
Pune, 4th December 2024: Pune’s winter chill was disrupted as unseasonal rain, influenced by Cyclone Fengal, swept across parts of the city and western Maharashtra. Light showers were recorded in areas like Kothrud, Baner, and central Pune late Tuesday night, causing a noticeable temperature rise.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast cloudy skies for Pune until 8th December, with light rainfall expected on 5th and 6th December. A similar weather pattern is predicted across Konkan and western Maharashtra, impacting regions such as Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, Satara, and Sangli.
A yellow alert has been issued for several districts, warning of rain accompanied by lightning. Sindhudurg and Kolhapur districts are expected to experience light rainfall with lightning on Thursday (5th December), while Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Ratnagiri, Raigad, and Solapur are likely to see moderate rainfall on Friday (6th December).
The unseasonal showers and rise in temperatures have become a concern for farmers. Crops, particularly those sensitive to cold weather, could suffer damage due to the unexpected climate shift. Experts have urged farmers to take preventive measures to minimize potential losses.
In the rest of Maharashtra, the cold wave has weakened. The IMD indicates that dry, cloudy conditions will persist in many districts, preventing the usual temperature drop associated with winter. This change is expected to continue for the next five days, keeping the winter chill mild across the state.
Residents of Pune and western Maharashtra are advised to brace for a mix of cloudy weather, sporadic rainfall, and rising temperatures in the coming days, as Cyclone Fengal continues to influence the region’s weather patterns.
