Pune, 20th February 2024: The Maharashtra Association of Residents Doctors (MARD) and resident doctors from BJ Government Medical College and Sassoon Hospital in Pune have expressed profound disappointment with the government’s indifferent approach to their concerns.

“Despite being frontline defenders in tertiary healthcare institutes, resident doctors face undeniable mistreatment. Commitments made during constructive engagement with authorities on February 7, 2024, including immediate fund allocation for hostel repairs, regularization of stipend payments, a stipend hike of 10k, and pending stipends and arrears release, remain unfulfilled even after two weeks”, MARD stated in a press release.

The doctors further added, “The promises were made by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Minister of Medical Education Hasan Mushrif. The delay in executing these commitments has compelled the BJMC MARD, in support of Central MARD, to announce a Pan Maharashtra Indefinite Strike starting on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 5:00 PM. Emergency duties will be maintained during the strike period as an essential measure.”

Residents doctors emphasize that patient care is their utmost priority, and this decisive action aims to safeguard their rights and uphold standards of patient care. The intention is not to disrupt services but to ensure authorities fulfill their obligations to resident doctors, who are the backbone of the healthcare system.
