Pune, 24th January 2025: The State Eligibility Test (SET), a mandatory qualification for securing Assistant Professor positions in universities and senior colleges, has been scheduled for 15th June. The exam will continue to be conducted in the traditional offline mode.

Dr. Jyoti Bhakare, the in-charge Registrar of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), issued a circular on Thursday announcing the date. The decision was finalized during a steering committee meeting attended by Vice Chancellors from SPPU, Mumbai University, Shivaji University, and two subject experts. This marks the 40th annual SET examination.

Initially, the exam was planned for 4th May, but it clashed with the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examination. As a result, the date was postponed to avoid any scheduling conflict. The detailed schedule, syllabus, and other essential details regarding the examination will soon be published on the SPPU website.

The application process for eligible candidates will commence within the next ten days. As per University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, the SET examination will be conducted by SPPU, and candidates from Maharashtra and Goa are eligible to apply.

Although discussions about conducting the SET examination online have been ongoing for the past few years, this year’s test will continue in the offline format. The possibility of transitioning to an online mode, similar to the National Eligibility Test (NET), remains a topic of interest among stakeholders.
