Shirur, 15th October 2025: Seven people were injured when a speeding car, reportedly driven by a police officer, collided with a passenger rickshaw and two two-wheelers in the Ranjangaon MIDC area on the Pune-Ahilyanagar highway. The accident occurred late Sunday night around 10:30 pm at Yash Inn Chowk and caused significant damage to the vehicles involved.

The suspect, Hemant Pandurang Iname, an officer posted at Ranjangaon MIDC police station, was reportedly returning from a party with friends when his car first hit the Piaggio rickshaw and then two parked two-wheelers.

The rickshaw driver, Kishore Vasant Rathod, his daughter Aarti Kishore Rathod, and five others—including two-wheeler riders Purushottam Bhagwan Kathule, Abhishek Rajendra Pawar, Sunny Parmeshwar Mhaske, Sumeet Baban Magar, and Nitin Kamlesh Chaudhary—suffered injuries and are undergoing treatment in Shirur and Ranjangaon hospitals.

“All the injured are migrant workers residing in Karegaon and other districts, employed in small and large companies in the Ranjangaon MIDC area,” said local sources.

The accident reportedly went unreported initially, with police maintaining secrecy. However, after social media posts brought the incident to public attention, a case was registered on Monday evening. Iname was taken into custody, and the case is being investigated by Police Sub-Inspector Anil Chavan under the guidance of Police Inspector Mahadev Waghmode.

Eyewitnesses claimed that six vehicles were actually hit and that the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, although the official Panchnama mentions damage to three vehicles. The investigating officer stated that, following High Court directions, immediate arrest is not mandatory for this bailable offence.
