Pune: Shirur Constituency Witnesses Mauli Katke’s Landslide Victory Over Ashok Pawar

Pune, 23rd November 2024: Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate Dnyaneshwar, also known as Mauli Katke, defeated incumbent MLA Ashok Pawar from NCP-Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SP) by a staggering margin of 74,550 votes in the Shirur constituency. This significant victory marked yet another triumph for Ajit Pawar’s faction in the ongoing NCP vs. NCP battles.
Despite Shirur being a traditional stronghold for NCP, with Dr Amol Kolhe securing substantial voter support in the Lok Sabha elections and backing Ashok Pawar, the incumbent could not withstand Katke’s campaign. Sentiments for senior leader Sharad Pawar and the historical NCP dominance in the area failed to turn the tide in Ashok Pawar’s favour.
With 4.55 lakh registered voters and a high turnout of 68.50%, strong voter participation played a key role in unseating the incumbent. Mauli Katke’s decisive win highlighted a shift in voter sentiment, securing a comfortable victory.
