Pune, 13th February 2025: Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar has directed officials to fast-track the redevelopment of Shivajinagar and Swargate ST bus stands, with the foundation stone set to be laid on 1st May 2025. The decision was confirmed by the Minister of State for Transport Madhuri Misal and MLA Siddharth Shirole following a high-level meeting in Mumbai.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, Minister of State for Transport Madhuri Misal, MLA Siddharth Shirole, Managing Director of Pune Mahametro Shravan Hardikar and Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) Madhav Kusekar were present on this occasion.

The redevelopment project, estimated at ₹600 crore, will be completed over three years. The initiative aims to modernize Pune’s public transport infrastructure, with Pune MahaMetro and the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) working in coordination. To expedite the process, Pawar has instructed authorities to finalize all necessary agreements and submit the project proposal within the next eight days.

The plan for the Shivajinagar bus stand has been in discussion since 2019, following its temporary relocation to Wakdewadi. However, despite multiple meetings, protests, and proposals, no concrete action was taken. The latest directive marks a significant step toward addressing years of delays.

Misal emphasized the need to integrate the Swargate bus and metro stations in a manner similar to the planned Shivajinagar project. Shirole added that an MoU between MSRTC and MahaMetro is expected to be signed next week to formalize the partnership.
