Pune Shocked as Pimpri Chinchwad Registers Seven Suicide Cases in a Single Day

Pimpri Chinchwad, 29th January 2025: Seven suicides were reported within the jurisdiction of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate (PCPC) yesterday, with six occurring on Monday (27th January) and one on Sunday (26th January), raising concerns over the rising number of such incidents in the city.

The first incident involved Gaurav Dnyaneshwar Agam, a 28-year-old who hanged himself using a scarf tied to an iron bracket near a window. This was discovered around 10:30 AM on Monday, in the Chakan Police Station area. In another case, Prasad Sanjay Avachat, 31, from Punawale, took his own life by hanging around 4:30 PM on the same day.

Vikas Ramdas Murgund, 35, was found hanged using a saree at Ganpat Landge Chawl, Bhosari, around noon on Monday. In a separate incident, Manappa Somalya Chavan, 52, from Shinde Wasti, Mulshi, used his head scarf to hang himself from a lemon tree near his house at approximately 9:45 AM.

Navnath Bhagwan Pawar, 46, from Thergaon, was discovered hanged in his bedroom using a bedsheet around 12:45 AM. The exact cause of his death is still under investigation, with his viscera sent to a laboratory for further analysis. Another case involved Suvarna Shriram Pawar, 36, from Old Sangvi, who committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her residence around 11:54 PM.

The seventh incident occurred on Sunday, when Dinesh Suresh Lokhande, 40, from Chikhali, jumped from the eighth floor of his residential building at approximately 7:45 PM. The reason for his suicide remains unknown, and Chikhali Police are conducting further investigations.

These incidents have sparked significant concern among local authorities and residents about the rising number of suicides in the area. The police are thoroughly investigating each case to determine the underlying causes and potential preventive measures that could be implemented to address this alarming trend.
