Pune: Shujaat Husain Khan concluded the 2nd day of 18th Vasantotsav

Pune, 18th January 2025: The second day of the 18th Vasantotsav concluded with a captivating sitar performance by Ustad Shujaat Khan, a renowned musician from the Etawah gharana. Organized by the Vasantrao Deshpande Pratishthan the festival is being held at Suryakant Kakade Farm in Kothrud, Pune.

Ustad Shujat Khan’s soulful performance began with Raaga Vachaspati, a rare and complex raaga influenced by Carnatic music traditions. He explained that Vachaspati is a blend of Raagas Kalavati, Janasammohini, and Yaman. Khan’s rendition was marked by a brief alap and jod, which captivated the audience.

He then presented a brief vocal rendition of ‘Dagar Chalat Mose’, a bandish composed by Ustad Fayyaz Khan, followed by an elaborate sitar performance in the gayaki and. Ustad Shujaat Khan was accompanied by Mukesh Jadhav and Amit Choubey on the tabla.

The third day of the Vasantutsav ( Sunday, January 19th) will feature a performance by Rahul Deshpande, followed by an Indian playback singer: Hariharan and the event will conclude with a finale: Hariharan and Rahul Deshpande.
