Pune Siblings Found Dead in Kerala Hotel Room; Suicide Notes Cite Financial Struggles
Thiruvananthapuram/Pune, 20th January 2025: Two siblings from Shikrapur in Pune district were found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room in Thampanoor, Kerala, on Sunday.
Police identified the deceased as Dattatray Kondiba Bamane, 45, and Mukta Kondiba Bamane, 49, residents of Dattvirar Society in Shikrapur. Both reportedly left separate suicide notes, which mentioned financial distress and personal hardships.
According to the police, the woman’s body was discovered lying on the bed, while the man was found in a seated position with a rope around his neck attached to the ceiling fan. A plastic cover was observed around his neck, secured with a rope. Investigators suspect that the man may have killed the woman before taking his own life, but the exact sequence of events will only be confirmed after post-mortem examinations, which are pending the arrival of their relatives from Pune. The bodies have been shifted to the medical college hospital mortuary.
One of the suicide notes reportedly stated that no one should be held responsible for their deaths and expressed a desire that their bodies not be handed over to their family. The notes highlighted their severe financial struggles, unemployment, and lack of a permanent home as reasons for their actions.
The siblings had checked into the hotel on Friday, registering their purpose as visiting the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple. On Saturday, they ventured out in the morning and returned by evening. Before retiring for the night, the man had instructed hotel staff to deliver breakfast at 8 a.m. the following day.
However, when the duo did not respond to repeated knocks on Sunday morning, the staff alerted the police, who broke open the door and discovered the bodies.
