Pune Sikh Community Sends Relief to Punjab Flood Victims
Reported by Shoaib Tadvi
Camp, 10th September 2025: In a strong display of unity and compassion, the Sikh community of Pune has sent large-scale relief for families devastated by floods in Punjab. Trustees and members of Gurudwara Gurunanak Darbar, Camp, along with all Pune Gurudwaras and the Sadh Sangat, have dispatched relief material worth over ₹35 lakh, upholding the Sikh tradition of sewa (selfless service).
The relief consignment includes essentials to meet both immediate and long-term needs of flood-hit families:
2.5 tons of milk powder for nutrition
2 lakh sanitary pads and 10,000 adult diapers to maintain hygiene
1,000 solar lights with mobile chargers for families without electricity
2 lakh water-purifying sachets to ensure safe drinking water
Medicines for fever, cold, diarrhea, and infections
Tea powder, 20 boxes of Maggi noodles, and other daily food items
Stationery, 300 school bags, and one lakh books to support children’s education
This initiative was made possible through the efforts of community members including Charanjit Singh Sahni, Surinder Singh Dhupar, Mohinder Singh Kandhari, Harjeet Singh Bedi, Narinderpal Singh Bakshi, Amarjeet Singh Chabra, and Vicky Oberoi.
Trustee Surinder Singh Dhupar said:
“We had sent ₹21 lakh immediately when the floods struck and provided essentials as per people’s needs. We are also sending medicines for fever, diarrhea, malaria, and cold, along with blankets, clothes, and mats for rehabilitation. Further, we will provide funds so that farmers can buy animals again, as many lost their livestock and dairy farmers are facing serious difficulties. This sewa is not just from Sikhs — Hindus and Muslims have also contributed. The relief trucks are going directly to Amritsar with these supplies.”
Community leaders stressed that the initiative is not only about material aid but also about assuring flood-hit families that they are not alone. The Sikh philosophy of Naam Japo, Kirat Karo, Vand Chhako — pray, work honestly, and share with others — continues to inspire such humanitarian efforts worldwide.
Members of the Gurudwara added that Pune’s Sikh community will continue extending support as the situation in Punjab evolves, ensuring timely delivery of essentials.
