Pune, August 30, 2020: Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister of Pune Ajit Pawar has instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to submit a proposal for the six-laning of the Yerwada to Shikrapur patch on the Pune-Ahmednagar Highway. Pawar has already held discussions with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari regarding the same, in order to deal with the traffic congestion issue on the Nagar Road.

The Yerwada to Kharadi patch of the Nagar Road lies within the limits of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Since Nagar Road is a State Highway, Vadgaon Sheri MLA Sunil Tingre has demanded that this patch must be developed as the signal-free road on the lines of the Pune-Mumbai Highway that passes through Pimpri-Chinchwad. Pawar held a meeting with the PWD and PMC officials in this regard, on Friday. He also instructed the officials to chart a plan including flyovers and grade separators, along with the six-laning of the road.

The PWD has estimated an approximate expenditure of around Rs 3,000 crores for the project. Pawar also clarified that funds could be acquired from the Central Government too. Pawar said that on approaching, he received a positive response from Gadkari.
