The incident took place near Jogeshwari School on Wagholi-Kesnand Road at around 8.15 pm on Saturday (October 17), when police personnel were travelling to make security arrangements for Navratri celebrations.
According to the complaint lodged by police constable Prashant Bhagwan Dhumal, 36, Senior Police Inspector Nandkumar Gaikwad and other personnel were travelling in an official vehicle to visit various Navratri mandals. Kamble parked his scooter across the vehicle’s path, behaved rudely with the police personnel and obstructed them from performing their official duties.
A case has been registered against Kamble under Sections 126(2) and 221 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 112 and 117 of the Maharashtra Police Act. Further investigation is underway.
A video of the incident has gone viral on social media. In the video, Kamble is seen questioning the police personnel over their alleged failure to wear seat belts. The incident has sparked a debate on social media, with several people arguing that traffic rules should apply equally to police personnel and members of the public.
Kamble Alleges Assault by Police
After the video went viral, Kamble posted another video on social media presenting his version of events. He alleged that police personnel snatched his mobile phone and assaulted him after he questioned them about wearing seat belts. He also claimed that police vehicles were sent to his residence.
Kamble further alleged that the police registered a case against him because he had planned to stage a protest outside Lonikand police station against police personnel.
His wife, Sonali Kamble, also levelled allegations against the police and submitted a complaint application.
Senior Police Inspector Nandkumar Gaikwad denied the assault allegations. He said the police personnel were wearing seat belts, but these were not visible in the video because of the darkness. He also alleged that Kamble blocked the police vehicle and used abusive language.
Further investigation is underway.
