Pune: Social Welfare Department Requests Citizens To Alert Authorities Regarding Evil Practices, Human Sacrifice, Black Magic

Pune, 20th December 2022: The social welfare department has appealed to the citizens to report to the police station if any incidents of human sacrifice, other inhuman evils or practices, and witchcraft occur or are observed in their area.
The Maharashtra Social Justice and Special Assistance Department is creating public awareness among the citizens regarding the Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013.
Section 2 of the Act includes tying a person with rope or hair or pulling a person’s hair, inflicting injury on a person’s body or parts with a hot object, forcing a person to perform sexual acts in the open, inhumane treatment of a person, forcing urine or faeces into a person’s mouth, beating a person by tying them with a rope or chain, beating them with a stick or whip, making them drink water soaked in shoes, giving the pepper spray, hanging them from the ceiling under the pretext of exorcism, or similar acts.
It also includes advertising, distributing or publishing materials, articles or books, directly or indirectly aiding, abetting, participating or abetting the commission of an offence. A person guilty of such an offence shall be liable to imprisonment for six months to seven years with a fine of Rs 5,000 to Rs 50,000 after conviction. The punishable offence is cognizable and non-bailable.
Assistant Commissioner Sangeeta Davkhar informed that police station inspectors have been appointed as vigilance officers in each taluka, and they have been given the right to file complaints themselves.
