Pune: Southern Command Collects 1,537 Units of Blood in Mega Donation Drive Ahead of Army Day

Pune, 4th December 2024: In a remarkable display of commitment to social responsibility, the Southern Command organised a large-scale Blood Donation Drive in the run-up to the 77th Army Day celebrations.

The drive, held across 21 locations within the command’s region, successfully contributed 1,537 units of blood to the blood banks, benefiting healthcare facilities across the southern region. The initiative was designed not only to meet the urgent requirements of blood banks but also to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation. A comprehensive outreach program was conducted, encouraging volunteers from all walks of life to come forward and contribute to this noble cause.

Organised under the theme of “Donate Blood – Save Lives”, the noble drive was conducted in close coordination with prominent civil hospitals and social organisations to ensure that the donated blood units reach the needy patients in time. The blood donors comprised of a healthy mix of Army personnel and their dependents, Veterans, NCC Cadets, Civil Defence employees, university students and teachers from Army public Schools and other volunteers from all walks of life.

The blood donation camps were established by all Military formations of the command at their respective Military Hospitals to include Pune, Kirkee, Kamptee, Aurangabad, Ahmednagar, Gwalior, Jodhpur, Jhansi, Babina, Bhopal, Nasirabad, Sagar, Secunderabad, Chennai, Avadi, Golconda, Belgaum, Trivandrum, Cannanore, Trivandrum and Wellington.

At Pune, the blood donation drive was successfully organised at two prominent locations to include Command Hospital, Southern Command and Military Hospital, Kirkee. The event saw an overwhelming response from volunteers, including serving personnel, veterans, students, civil defence employees and other members of the community. A total of 120 units of blood were collected during the drive, showcasing the collective commitment to this noble cause.

At Command Hospital, the event was conducted in partnership with Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) and Blood Transfusion & Blood Immunology Hemotology Departments. The drive was inaugurated by Lieutenant General S P Singh, Yudh Seva Medal, Chief of Staff, Headquarters Southern Command.

As part of the larger responsibilities towards the Nation Building, Indian Army remains committed to the wellbeing of its citizens. This blood donation campaign shall go a long way in motivating people from all sections of the society particularly the youth in their duty towards the society which can save precious lives.

Senior Military Commanders of all formations/units thanked the people for their immense contribution and for making the event a grand success.
