Narhe, 24th November 2025: The Pune City Traffic Police has announced a strict new speed limit of 30 km per hour on the Katraj Bypass stretch between the Katraj New Tunnel and Navale Bridge in an effort to curb frequent road accidents caused by overspeeding.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Hinmat Jadhav said the decision comes after repeated incidents of serious crashes along the high-risk corridor. “The Katraj Bypass has seen frequent accidents due to overspeeding. To prevent road mishaps, reduce congestion, and ensure safer traffic movement, it has become necessary to restrict vehicle speed on this route,” Jadhav said.

The new order, issued under Sections 115, 116(1)(A)(B), 116(4), and 117 of the Motor Vehicles Act, cancels all previously issued speed-limit notifications for the stretch. The revised speed limit will be enforced from November 25, 2025.

Jadhav appealed to motorists to strictly follow the new limits and remain alert to road signage. “Drivers must monitor their vehicle’s speedometer and obey all signboards and road markings. Violations will attract strict action, and enforcement will be carried out through CCTV and speed-gun systems,” he said.

The Traffic Department said the measure aims to bring down the number of fatal and non-fatal accidents on the bypass, which remains one of Pune’s busiest and most accident-prone routes.
