Pune: SRA Demolishes 216 Illegal Huts in Major Eviction Drive at Ramwadi
Viman Nagar, 25th February 2026: In one of the largest anti-encroachment drives in recent months, the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) on Tuesday cleared 216 unauthorized huts at Siddharth Nagar in the Ramwadi area along Nagar Road, reclaiming the entire parcel of land.
The demolition exercise began at 7 am and continued until 2 pm, covering land parcels listed under Survey Nos. 204, 205 and parts of 2145 and 2146 in the Yerwada slum belt. Officials said prior eviction notices had been issued to occupants, and adequate police deployment was arranged to prevent any untoward incidents.
SRA Chief Executive Officer Satishkumar Khadke described the action as one of the most extensive and carefully coordinated operations undertaken by the authority. He stated that the drive was executed in a systematic and peaceful manner.
The operation was supervised by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Archana Yadav and involved senior officials from the revenue and administrative departments, personnel from the Pune Municipal Corporation’s encroachment wing, and a substantial police presence. Teams from the electricity department and the fire brigade were also stationed at the site as a precautionary measure.
Heavy machinery was deployed to dismantle the structures, with multiple departments working in coordination. Authorities said officials engaged with residents during the process and explained the legal framework governing the eviction. According to the SRA, families found eligible under rehabilitation norms have been offered alternative accommodation.
The authority further stated that households affected by proposed road widening will be rehabilitated through housing units under a private developer’s scheme in Kharadi, in coordination with the Pune Municipal Corporation. Additionally, permanent housing is expected to be provided within two years as part of an ongoing in-situ rehabilitation project at Siddharth Nagar, Khadke said.
With the encroachments removed, the land is now available for planned development works. The SRA reiterated that similar action will be taken against unauthorized constructions elsewhere in the city as part of its continued enforcement efforts.
