Pune: St. Vincent’s H.S. Sweeps Loyola Football Cup With Under-12, 14, and 16 Wins
Pune, 8th October 2024: St. Vincent’s H.S showed their supreme hold grabbing all three titles – Under-12, 14 and 16 – up for grabs in the Loyola Football Cup 2024 powered by Tata Autocomp and organised by ELAN (Ex Loyola Alumni Network) at the Loyola H.S ground, Pashan, here Monday.
The day began with the Under-12 encounter being decided 4-1 in favour of St Vincent’s HS. Both St. Vincent’s H.S. and Loyola H.S. played out a 3-3 regulation-time draw. The contest was thrilling and finished in a dramatic penalty shootout. Loyola took the lead through Aarav Patil (15’), but Joshua Fernandes helped St. Vincent’s level at the 24-minute mark. The two teams continued to trade blows, with Loyola’s Nived Nair (35’) finding the net and St. Vincent’s Anvi Lobo (44’) responding. Reyan Punjabi (56’) gave St. Vincent’s the lead, only for Loyola’s Aaron Castelino (58’) to level the match 3-3.
In the penalty shootout, St. Vincent’s held their nerve, winning 4-1. Joshua Fernandes, Anvic Lobo, Jeevansh Vyas, and Reyan Punjabi all converted their spot kicks for St. Vincent’s, while Harjas Singh and Aaron Castelino missed theirs for Loyola after Shaun Angae converted his attempt.
In the Under-14 section, St. Vincent’s H.S. delivered a commanding performance, cruising to a 5-1 victory over Vidya Valley. Joel Cheriyan was the star of the match, scoring a hat-trick with goals in the (16’, 20’ and 30’). Ashton Kale (47’ and 50+2’) added two more goals thereafter. Vidya Valley’s only response came from Daksh Partani (31’).
Later, the Under-16 matchup was a hard-fought battle, with St. Vincent’s securing a narrow 2-1 win over Loyola H.S. Shounak Dhapte scored twice in quick succession (27’, 30’) for St. Vincent’s, while Loyola H.S’s Arhan Shaikh (60+4’) netted a consolation goal in stoppage time.
