Pune, 16th June 2023: In its objective to provide housing facilities to all, Maharashtra state government has decided to provide free of cost houses to the slum dwellers who were residing in the area prior to 2000.

Also, those slum dwellers who were residing in the area prior to 2011 now avail the facility to get the house at a subsidised rate of two and a half lakh rupees. This will help the ineligible slum dwellers get houses in the same place.

The Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) has submitted revised construction regulations to the state government. Many important
provisions have been made in this regulation. It provides for the free rehabilitation of slum dwellers who were residing in the area prior to 2000. However, concerns were raised about subsequent slum residents, prompting the inclusion of paid rehabilitation options for those ineligible for free housing.

For that, a provision has been made that they should be rehabilitated at the rate of construction costs in ready reckoner. But for that, it was stipulated that the hut holder should have proof that he was a resident of the given area before 2011. These facilities are expected to help significant numbers of slum dwellers, as according to estimates, there are more than 580 slums in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad cities, and there are about 12 lakh slum dwellers, out of which twenty to twenty-five percent are post-2000 residents.
