Baner, 22nd January 2025: A 19-year-old woman was killed when a speeding dumper truck rear-ended a two-wheeler in Pune’s Baner area yesterday morning. The incident occurred around 11 am at Ganraj Chowk, highlighting the ongoing issue of heavy vehicles violating traffic restrictions in the city despite being banned during daytime and peak hours.

Mukta Santosh Kale, a resident of Balewadi who was undergoing training in a beauty parlor course, died on the spot after falling under the wheels of the dumper truck. The two-wheeler rider, Shilpa Kamble (36) from Balewadi village, sustained injuries in the accident.

According to the complaint filed by Kamble at the Baner Police Station, the dumper truck hit their stationary two-wheeler from behind while they were waiting at a traffic signal. The impact caused Kale to fall under the truck’s wheels, resulting in her immediate death.

Assistant Police Inspector Rutuja Jadhav is leading the investigation. The police have registered a case against the truck driver, who fled the scene after the accident.
