Pune: Stringent Action Against Accused, Fast-Track Court for Pimpalwadi Case, Says DCM Sunetra Pawar

Pune/Mumbai, 19th August 2026: Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar on Wednesday said the accused in the rape and murder of a nine-and-a-half-year-old girl in Pimpalwadi village of Junnar tehsil in Pune district would face stringent action and that the case would be tried in a fast-track court.

Calling the incident extremely unfortunate and shocking, Pawar said she had spoken over the phone with Pune District Superintendent of Police Sandip Singh Gill to review the investigation. She has issued clear directions to the police administration to conduct a thorough and transparent probe and take strict action against the accused.

Expressing deep anguish over the crime, the Deputy Chief Minister who is also the guardian minister of the Pune district said, “This act is highly condemnable and a blot on humanity. The police have acted promptly and taken the suspect into custody, and further investigation is progressing swiftly. I will make a special request to Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis to ensure that this case is tried in a fast-track court so that the accused receives the harshest possible punishment at the earliest.”

Pawar also clarified that the government stands firmly with the victim’s family and that she would soon visit Pimpalwadi to meet them in person.
