Pune: Sunetra Pawar Asks MHADA to Fast-Track Housing Projects, Announce Lottery Soon
Pune/Mumbai, 5th August 2026: Deputy chief minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar on Wednesday directed the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) to expedite all pending housing projects and announce a major housing lottery for affordable homes at the earliest to benefit the common man.
Chairing a review meeting at Sahyadri Guest House, Pawar instructed officials to fast-track pending proposals and ensure that all required administrative approvals are granted without delay. She stressed that providing affordable housing to citizens should be accorded the highest priority.
She directed MHADA to conduct the proposed housing lottery in a transparent and time-bound manner. Pawar also instructed officials to sell flats that have failed to attract buyers in two or more lottery rounds on a ‘first come, first served’ basis to prevent homes from remaining vacant and to ensure quicker allotment to eligible applicants.
The deputy chief minister also asked MHADA to explore rental housing initiatives such as working women’s hostels and student hostels to cater to women relocating for employment and students pursuing higher education.
During the meeting, Pawar directed officials to immediately complete the administrative approval process for MHADA housing projects worth Rs 155.22 crore in Shirur and Rs 89.47 crore in Kharabwadi, both in Pune district. She also asked the authority to frame a clear policy to prevent developers from levying additional charges on beneficiaries under the Pune Board’s 20% inclusive housing scheme, following complaints of financial exploitation.
She further instructed officials to take a policy decision for allotting unsold flats within six months, as provided under the Unified Development Control and Promotion Regulations (UDCPR), to minimise financial losses to both the government and developers.
Among other directions, Pawar asked officials to cancel the postal department’s reservation on a MHADA plot at Kharadi by providing alternative land, expedite a proposed housing project comprising around 8,000 to 10,000 homes at Dapodi, and ensure that the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) completes the 18-metre-wide access road, water supply and sewage treatment plant (STP) infrastructure for the Mhalunge-Ingale housing project at the earliest.
She also directed the transfer of two hectares of land at Miraj in Sangli district to MHADA under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) and asked officials to identify and transfer suitable government land in Sangli city for the development of affordable housing projects.
Pawar instructed officials to prepare a time-bound action plan for all projects and regularly monitor the progress of every proposal to ensure timely implementation.
