Pimpri Chinchwad, 5th March 2024: In a shocking turn of events, Police Sub-Inspector Vikas Shelke of the Pimpri-Chinchwad police force has been arrested for his involvement in a major drug trafficking operation. The officer was apprehended with a staggering 44 kg 790 grams of Mephedrone (MD), valued at a whopping Rs 44 crore 79 lakh 80 thousand. The arrest has prompted the suspension of Shelke, along with the dismissal of two other police personnel from service.

The case unfolded when Namami Jha, a hotel worker, was caught with a significant amount of Mephedrone worth Rs 2 crore at Rakshak Chowk in Pimple Nilakh. During interrogation, Jha revealed that he obtained the narcotics from Shelke, a sub-inspector of Nigdi Police Station. This revelation led to Shelke’s arrest and the subsequent suspension order from Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey.

Shelke has been remanded to seven days of police custody as the investigation intensifies. Authorities discovered an additional 2 kg 400 grams of Mephedrone in Shelke’s car, adding to the gravity of the case. The police are currently conducting thorough interrogations to unearth the extent of Shelke’s involvement and any potential network associated with the illicit drug trade.

This incident has sent shockwaves through the police force and the community, raising concerns about the integrity of law enforcement officers. Commissioner Choubey emphasized a commitment to rooting out corruption within the force and ensuring that those responsible face the full consequences of their actions.

Approximately three weeks ago, Hemant Gaikwad and Sachin Shejal, police personnel from Dehu Road Police Station, faced suspension and eventual dismissal from government service. Their involvement in intimidating a college student with baseless ganja possession charges resulted in the abduction of the student and the extortion of a substantial ransom from his father. These recent events have instilled a sense of fear among the public, raising doubts about the trustworthiness of those appointed to ensure their protection.
