Pune: Tanker Driver Arrested for Supplying STP Water to Housing Society in Kharadi

Kharadi, 4th January 2025: In a shocking case that raised concerns about public health, a tanker driver supplying water processed from a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) to Nyati Elysia Society in Kharadi has been arrested. The Chandannagar police took Srinivas Dasari, the accused driver, into custody after the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) registered a complaint against him.
The second accused in the case, Ajay Dasari, is reportedly out of Pune, and action against him is pending. Nitin Jadhav, a Junior Engineer from the PMC, filed the FIR that led to the arrest.
The issue came to light when residents of Elysia Society noticed a decline in water quality. The contaminated water allegedly caused health problems among the residents. Suspicious of the tanker’s source, society members followed the vehicle and discovered it was sourcing water from the Kharadi STP.
When confronted, the tanker driver reportedly attempted to intimidate the residents instead of addressing their concerns. Outraged by the incident, the society lodged complaints with both the PMC and Chandannagar police station against M/s Shriram Water Supply, the private supplier responsible for water delivery to Elysia Society. The PMC took serious note of the matter and initiated legal action to hold those responsible accountable.
The police have since registered a case, and further investigations are underway to track down the second accused and determine the extent of the supplier’s negligence.
