Pune : Techie Dies by Suicide; Five In-Laws Booked for Abetment
Pune, 14th October 2026: A 33-year-old IT engineer allegedly died by suicide after facing harassment from her husband and in-laws over money, property and divorce, police said.
The woman was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her flat in Keshavnagar, Mundhwa, on September 29. Her 74-year-old father later lodged a complaint with Mundhwa police.
On Monday, police registered a case of abetment to suicide against five members of her in-laws’ family — her husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law and grandmother-in-law. Her sister-in-law was arrested in Mumbai.
According to police, the woman had allegedly faced harassment over money since 2018. Her in-laws allegedly pressured her to arrange funds to buy a flat and transfer it in her husband’s name. She was also repeatedly asked to bring money from her parental home to repay a loan taken for her sister-in-law’s education.
Police said her husband also allegedly pressured her to grant him a divorce so he could remarry.
Senior inspector Smita Wasnik of Mundhwa police said a note purportedly written by the woman blamed her husband and in-laws for her death. Audio recordings of conversations between the couple were also found on her cellphone.
