Pune: Thief Poses As Beggar, Steals Phones And Cash Worth Rs 18.5 Lakh

Camp, 6th April 2023: Cases of burglary and theft continue to be on the rise in Pune. In the latest incident, mobile phones, laptops, and Indian currency amounting to around Rs 18.5 lakh were stolen from Pavit Enterprises mobile shop located at MG Road.

The main accused, who pretended to be a beggar, parked his two-wheeler at a distance and entered the shop by breaking the main shutter and door lock, after pretending to sleep on the footpath.

During the investigation of the crime, CCTV footage revealed the accused disguised as a beggar. The IMEI number was used to trace the accused, who was identified as Kedar Suresh Shinde and arrested from Lohianagar. Upon interrogation, Suresh revealed that he had taken the mobile phones from Asim Shabbi, a trader. Asim Shabbi was arrested on April 1, and the police seized 14 mobile phones worth Rs 9 lakh, including Samsung Fold Three and Ultra Samsung Note Ten mobiles, informed DCP (Zone 2) Smartana Patil.

The police are continuing to interrogate the accused to recover the stolen laptop and cash worth Rs 6 lakh.
