Pune: Three Arrested for Illegally Selling Liquor Using Walkie-Talkie

Pune, October 10, 2020: Pune rural police have arrested three people for illegally selling alcohol using walkie-talkie at a hotel in Ambegaon taluka. Newly appointed Superintendent of Police Abhinav Deshmukh has ordered strict action against illegal traders.

The local crime branch (LCB) assistant police inspector Ravindra Manjre got a tip off from an informer about illegal liquor sale activity in Hotel Manoranjan in Bhawadi in Ambegaon taluka on Friday.

According to police, Nilesh Baban Kale and Santosh Baban Kale were selling alcohol to their customers ordering it by using a walkie-talkie. The liquor is stored in the back room of the hotel, and whenever a customer needs or orders for alcohol, they communicate over the walkie-talkie and call for the liquor.

After verifying the information, police inspector Krishnadev Kharade of Manchar police station, local crime branch squad immediately raided the hotel, when Nilesh escaped from the hotel through a back door. While searching the hotel, police found desi (local) and foreign brand liquors and a walkie-talkie on the counter, and a second walkie-talkie at the store room.

When questioned, Nilesh’s wife Nita Kale told the police that the keys to the rooms are with her husband and brother-in-law, therefore, she can’t open the doors. But police broke into the rooms.

The police have confiscated a local and foreign liquors worth over Rs 1.69 lakh and two walkie-talkie worth Rs 4,000, was seized from the place.

The police have registered FIR against the three– Nilesh, Nita and Santosh. Manchar police will be further investigating the matter.

The action was taken by the LCB police inspector Padmakar Ghanwat, assistant police inspector Ravindra Manjre, police havaldar Shankar Jam and Sharad Bamble, Police Naik Deepak Sable and Manchar Police Station’s inspector Krishnadev Kharade, Police Naik Ajit Madke, Vinod Gaikwad, Constables Shivaji Chitare and S V Gawari.
