Pune: Three Dead, Six Injured in Wagholi as Drunken Driver’s Dumper Crushes People On Footpath

Wagholi, 23rd December 2024: A tragic incident unfolded near Kesnand Phata in Wagholi, Pune, when a dumper ran over nine people sleeping on the footpath, killing three and seriously injuring six others.

The deceased include two young children and their uncle, while three of the injured remain in critical condition. The dumper driver, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, has been arrested by the Pune police.

At approximately 1 am, the dumper veered off the road onto the footpath opposite Wagholi police chowky, crushing nine out of 12 people who were sleeping there. Others were resting in makeshift huts adjacent to the footpath. The impact was devastating, leaving three people dead on the spot. The injured were immediately rushed to Sassoon Hospital, where three remain critical.

The driver, identified as Gajanan Shankar Totre (26), a resident of Nanded, was reportedly intoxicated during the incident. He has been taken into custody by the Wagholi police and booked under charges of culpable homicide. Senior Police Inspector Pandit Rejitwad is leading the investigation.
