Yerwada, 14th June 2023: Three head constables from Yerwada police station, Pune City Police, were suspended on Tuesday night after one of them was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 13,000 from a travel agent to register an accident case.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4) Shashikant Borate took immediate action and ordered the suspension of head constable Rajendra Dixit, along with Jairam Savalkar and Vinayak Mudholkar, who were found to be involved in the criminal act.

The incident took place on Monday midnight when Dixit was caught red-handed by the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) while accepting the bribe at Yerwada police station. The gravity of the situation prompted the registration of a case against all three constables at the same police station.

DCP Borate, citing the indecent behavior and tarnished image of the police department due to the actions of the constables, issued the suspension order on Tuesday night.

Prior complaints against certain officials at Yerwada police station, alleging money demands from complainants for various tasks, had already reached the senior officers. The financial extortion perpetrated by members of the police force and their insistence on bribes has left citizens aggrieved, leading them to approach the Anti-Corruption Bureau for justice. The registration of a case against these three constables for accepting bribes has caused a stir within Yerwada Police Station and the entire Pune City Police Force.
