Pune: Tourism Banned In Tamhini Ghat Area And Sanctuary Till Further Notice

Pune, 18th July 2022: Tourism has been banned in Tamhini Sanctuary, Ghat, Andharban area, which is famous for tourism in Mulshi taluka, under the Wildlife Protection Act till further orders. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the possibility of heavy rain and the ongoing heavy rainfall. Accordingly, action will be taken against the violators.

The area of Tamhini sanctuary falls in the region where the meteorological department has predicted heavy rainfall. There is heavy rainfall in this area every year. It has been raining here for the last 12 days. Streams are flooded. There has been a huge loss of agriculture and paddy crops. Roads have become slippery, officials said.

Tamhini Ghat, Andharban area has a large number of mountains, deep valleys. Many landslides have happened here during monsoons. The flow of waterfalls has increased due to a large amount of water coming into the streams.

Visibility decreases during monsoon due to heavy rains. The road is unpredictable in a dense fog following the cases of tourists losing the path by mistake.

Considering all these possibilities, Tushar Chavan, Conservator of Wildlife and Forests of Pune Forest Department, has ordered a ban on tourism in the Tamhini sanctuary until further orders to avoid any accident and death cases.
