Tourist Rescued After Falling into 150–170 ft Gorge at Sinhagad Fort

Pune, 6th May 2026: A 35-year-old tourist from Shirur, Yogesh Mohan Shitole, was rescued after falling into a deep gorge at Sinhagad Fort on Tuesday evening.

Shitole had visited the fort for sightseeing earlier in the day. Around 4:30–5:00 pm, he went to the western side near a viewpoint known as “Hawa Point” to watch and photograph the sunset.

While standing on grassy terrain close to the edge, he slipped and fell into a gorge estimated to be around 150 to 170 feet deep. He lost consciousness shortly after the fall.

Around 7:00–7:30 pm, he regained consciousness and dialled emergency helpline 112, informing authorities about the incident and his location inside the gorge.

Following the alert, personnel from Haveli Police Station, including officer Aniket Kale, immediately coordinated with the disaster management and rescue team. A rescue operation was launched without delay at Sinhagad Fort.

Rescue teams descended into the steep terrain and successfully reached the injured man. He was safely brought out of the gorge and shifted to a private hospital for treatment. His family was also informed.
